Product Information: The shekere (a handmade rattle) is probably one of the most popular instruments in Africa. Though it originated in the Motherland, the shekere is now used in Afro-Caribbean, Jazz, Salsa and other popular music. It is a percussion instrument made from a gourd that is covered with a net of seeds, beads, shells or any available material. It is used for folklore as well as in popular mainstream African music. Musicians dance and sing while they shake a shekere or bang it on their knees.
